TENEK’s ‘EP2’ OUT NOW via ALIEN SIX PRODUCTIONS
“Like a phoenix; Tenek rise again:
TENEK took the UK electronic scene by storm when they first arrived in 2007 and went on a rampage through the UK and mainland Europe with their headline sets and in support of big name acts. Just as they were riding the crest of the wave they’d created they decided to try out other musical ventures and after a relatively short life as Tenek, they were no more.
Fast forward to 2020 and there was a genuine excitement within their fanbase when the news broke of an imminent Tenek release… and that excitement, strangely, did not abate when the release turned out to be a re-issue and not new material. You see, the re-release was of the much-heralded EP2 and that was great news.
Although not exclusively electronic in their make up their sound fits in perfectly with that scene. They use guitars and are not averse to implementing other instruments and leaning on guest musicians if they can, in any way, enhance the output. However, the huge sound they create(d) is very much electronic in its roots.
Tenek are Peter Steer and Geoff Pinckney and both have graced the UK music scene in various other guises. They have played alongside and in support of some musical heavyweights and, indeed, make use of friendships made on the journey on the recording of this particular EP.
The musicianship on this (and all of the Tenek releases) is impressive. They are technicians and masters of their art. It’s pop music. But it’s good pop music. There is no filler in the Tenek back catalogue and that is a very rare thing in pop.”

It seems hard to believe that the ‘On The Wire‘ album is approaching it’s 9th birthday and that many of the songs on the album began to form over ten years ago. This was a new situation for us as we had to write an entire album from scratch whereas ‘Stateless‘ had been a collection of tracks from our work as Alien Six Productions and several had dated from as early as 2005.
Without knowing it we had started in January 2009 when we were given a tight deadline to complete a bonus track for the ‘Submission‘ single which was due for imminent release. Shaun Brooks from our label Toffeetones was insistent that we should have a decent ‘b-side’ to break up the various remixes for this release. Having just finished ‘Stateless’, we scoured the hard drive for anything that we thought might be usable. We found a basic demo of ‘No Time For Fighting‘ which seemed to have some merit, particularly the chant type chorus. We then spent several Continue reading “Pete’s Blog (Part 1) – On the Wire Re-release [April 2019]” »

I remember “On the Wire” came together pretty quickly and contained a lot of influences – Nine Inch Nails, Nitzer Ebb, Cabaret Voltaire, Thomas Dolby, Ultravox to name a few.
My Waldorf Blofeld was used a lot throughout the album. I bought it to use live when touring with Mesh. It’s a small unit, but has a massive sound and the wavetable type synthesis gave the sounds a nice edge. Which I don’t doubt added to the 80’s vibe that runs throughout this album.
Anyway, I thought I’d dig out the old hard drive that all the album files reside on and make a few notes for each track… Continue reading “Geoff’s Blog – On the Wire Re-release [April 2019]” »

So as we prepare to re-issue ‘Stateless’ nine years from it’s original date of release I thought I should write a proper blog about the album, how it came about and what the album means to me personally.

Things have been pretty quiet on the tenek front for a few months as both Geoff and myself work on other projects such as ‘Silent Unseen Productions‘ and as many of you know I’m currently working with Bristol band ‘Sinestar‘ in the studio and also live too. But we have been busy behind the scenes with preparations for the back catalogue re-releases that we have planned for 2018.

I thought it was about time for another blog regarding the band and what’s been happening as we’ve received quite a few enquiries about the future of Tenek. Most recently we’ve been concentrating on the preparations for our 10th Anniversary show at the Dave Charles Extravaganza at Market Harborough which we performed at last weekend.

Firstly, we’d like to thank everyone that came down to support us and all the other bands at the event. It really was such an honour to headline on Friday night alongside Rainland, John Costello and Dancing With Ruby. All are good friends of ours and we’ve shared the stage with them all at various shows/events over the years. The whole weekend was a fantastic celebration with a lovely atmosphere and it was also a great way for everyone to come together and thank Dave for all his support in the 10 years that he has been broadcasting his legendary Sunday night show from HFM.
